It was founded in 1968 and started franchising in 2000. The first La Quinta was opened in San Antonio, Texas during the Hemis Fair 1968. Their headquarters was transferred to Irving, Texas in 1999. It was acquired by Blackstone Group in 2005. The types and setting of hotels differ in every location although those that are company owned are standardized. With this, the franchisees are given the freedom to customize the rooms and contents as they please. The architectural exterior, however, are generally Southern and Spanish.
