CeX is a franchise for a business that resells electronics. It was founded in 1992 and started franchising in 1997.

 It was founded by Robert Dudani. He started with only $3,000 in his back pocket and believed that there was a big market for second hand electronics such as computers, video games, and gadgets. He wanted to make these things affordable by trading their old things that they no longer want. This way, people would be able to buy things that they want more at very low prices as second hands. At the same time, he wanted to become environmentally friendly by extending the life and use of these things. They test all these things and give a warranty for one full year. The first location was named “ottenham Court Road Computer Exchange” on Tottenham Court Road in London. It was a place for second hand electronics and imports from the United States and Japan. Many of them joined the company as it grew. They now have four locations in the United States, 74 locations around the world like in Barcelona and Ballymena, and 44 locations that are company owned.

 

What products do they buy and sell at CeX?

For gaming, they have consoles, DS, Gamecube, PC games, Playstation two, Playstation three, PSP, retro gaming, Wii, Xbox, and Xbox 360. They also have DVD’s and Blu-Rays. For computing, they have computer accessories such as external hard drives and processors such as USB flash drives and intel processors, data storage, desktops, DVD and Blu-Ray optical drives, graphics, sounds, vision, laptops such as Apple, Dell, Acer, HP, Toshiba, and Sony, memory, networking, processors, and software like Apple software, Adobe Software, and Microsoft Software. They have mobile phones, accessories and software, and phone handsets such as iPhones, Blackberry, and Nextel. Foe other electronics, they have camcorders, camera accessories, cameras such as Canon and Nikon, memory cards, portable audio and video, SAT NAV, and GPS units. For vision, they have Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players, monitors, projectors, televisions, and vision accessories. For music, they have CD’s. Their top sellers includes Apple iPad WiFi, Playstation three, Nintendo 3DS, Samsung Vibrant, Avatar DVD, Apple iPhone four, L.A.Noire, Portal two, and Apple iPod Video Classic.

Cost and requirements on running a CeX franchise

Expect to be investing about $150,000 to $250,000. The cost of CeX franchise fee is $30,000 with an on-going royalty fee of 8%. Their term of agreement is not renewable.
