You need to have a total liquid asset of at least $50,000. Expect to be investing about $16,000 to $48,400. The Express Tax franchise fee is $2,500 with an on-going royalty fee of 22.5%. This is for a renewable 10 year term agreement. You will need about two employees to run one location. They allow multi-unit ownership and currently, 13% of their franchisees have more than one location. They do not allow absentee ownership.

What is included in the franchise package?

There will be four days training at the headquarters and three days at your location. Trainings are held at an Express Tax University which offers trainings all year round. They offer a web-based training that includes an extensive curriculum that also helps facilitate training for employees and tracking their progress. These on-going trainings also include updates on tax laws and changes in IRS procedures. The initial training includes introduction to the Express Tax brand, industry basics, office procedures, tax training, marketing, client experience training, and software and financial product training. You will have exclusivity in your territory. You will be provided with tax preparation software and the technology support that will help you in computer configuration or any other technical issues. They will provide you access to customer service all year round and they have additional chat support during tax season. You will also be provided with the client tracking and financial management systems. For marketing, you will be given a marketing kit, access to ad slicks, co-op advertising, and regional advertising.
