Fresh City Franchise

Fresh City is a franchise for a fresh food restaurant. It was founded by Bruce and Larry Reinstein in 1997.

It was their father, David Reinstein, who taught them how to succeed through washing pots, choosing produce, making change, and even mopping floors but he said that the most important lesson is to “treat your guests like family”. The brothers graduated from Cornell University and came home in 1992 to continue the business that their father started. The business was focused on soups and salads and has been known as “Boston’s Best” but Larry said that they needed to offer more than soups and salads to keep people coming in every day. They travelled far and wide from Memphis to Milan, Shanghai to San Francisco, Paris, France to Portland, Maine. They wanted something new and they found chefs that mixed and matched cuisines from all over the world. Ideas after ideas, they decide that they base their recipes from the freshest ingredients. Then Fresh City was born.

What is on the menu at Fresh City?

Their Chef’s Specials include Falafel Salad Wrap which has falafel, cucumber, hummus, tomato, romaine, red onion, Greek dressing then wrapped in pita. Another specialty is the Smoothie of the month like the Watermelon Blast with fat-free vanilla yogurt, apple juice, strawberries, watermelon, blueberries, and bananas. For Stir Fry, they have Steak Stir Fry, Chicken Stir Fry, Tofu Stir Fry, Salmon Stir Fry, and Vegetable Stir Fry. You can pair this with Teriyaki Sauce, Ginger Lime, Kung Pao, Satay Peanut, or Cactus BBQ which is the spiciest one. They have the Bold Burritos in Chicken Sapporo, Tortilla Crusted Fish, Thai Chicken, and Poblano Roasted Vegetable. Classic Burritos include Cancun Burrito and the Burrito Grande. For Salad Wraps and Salads, they have Chicken Cobb, Olympia Greek, and Mandarin Sesame Chicken. They also have sandwiches like Sedona Chicken and Cordoba Turkey. Their Signature Soups are Wild Mushroom Barley, Fresh City Chicken Soup, and New England Clam Chowder. They also have a variety of Smoothies classified as Power smoothies, Red Bull Smoothies, and City Lite Smoothies. For desserts, they have Popchips, Fresh City Sweet Pitas, and Brownies and Blondies. They also serve breakfast meals such as Breakfast Burrito, Bagels, South of the Border, and Breakfast Plates.

Costs and requirements on running a Fresh City franchise

You need to have a total liquid asset of at least $2,500,000. Expect to be investing about $726,000 to $1,100,000. The Fresh City franchise fee is $35,000 with an on-going royalty fee of 5%. This is for a renewable 10 year term agreement. You will be needing about 12 employees to run one location.

What is included in the franchise package?

There will be eight weeks training at the headquarters and one to two weeks training at your location. You will be attending Fresh City meetings and expecting occasional field evaluations to check on your progress. You will be given access to the internet and your own toll free number. For marketing, there will be ad slicks, co-op advertising, and regional advertising. They also have the community marketing program.
