Wild Bird Centers of America is a franchise for a bird supply retail store. It was founded George H. Petrides, Sr. in Washington, D.C. in 1985.

He opened the fist Wild Bird Center in Cabin John, Maryland. The first location was also where he first started developing patents for his wild bird products. In December of 2010, they received their first major award in Canada from Westshore Chamber of Commerce. In January of 2011, they exceeded their “Green Initiatives” goal. They set their goal on reducing their carbon footprint by 25% but on their 2th anniversary, they have reduced it by 50%. Part of this program is their 100% biodegradable bags and their 100% recyclable Trade-dress carpeting. In February of 2011, they partnered with Charley Harper Art Studio to use their art as part of their new in-store branded look. On this same month, they joined Birdstars.org who is a leading organization in bird education. The founder, George H. Petrides, Sr. was awarded “Citizen Award for Exceptional Service” for his efforts in supporting and contributing to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Wild Bird Centers proudly published the first book on the History of Wild Bird feeding Hobby. Because of all these success, they now have over 100 outlets in 30 states in the US and provinces in Canada.
