Dunn Bros Coffee is a franchise for a coffee shop. It was founded by brothers Ed and Dan Dunn in December 1987 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Ed had refurbished 1950’s Probat Roaster loaded at the back of his truck all the way from Portland, Oregon to St. Paul. He was searching for underserved areas. They opened their second location in Minneapolis in 1991 which served as a temporary location while they recovered their store from a fire. There are currently 74 locations in Minnesota. Other locations are in Tennessee, Texas, Nebraska, Kansas, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota. What makes Dunn Bros Coffee unique is that each traditional store roasts fresh coffee beans in the store on a daily basis. Exceptions to this are locations in library, airport, and college campuses. Each store are designed and decorated to be unique reflections of the community they are in. They play local music and hang local art works. Majority of the shops also has free WiFi service. One thing in common to all location is the aroma which is a benefit of roasting coffee in the shop daily.

They have the freshest beans. Coffee beans are roasted daily in-store and it’s sold within 3 days. It’s a standard that they keep to make sure that they are always serving the freshest cup of coffee. Their explanation to this is that when the beans are roasted, it loses its moisture and chemical reactions happen. During this process, aromatic oils are created. These oils are water soluble and it’s what gives taste to your coffee. But after the beans are roasted, it also starts to lose these oils and lose its flavour so they need to use it while it’s freshly roasted. They offer 3 different roasts at the store: The Full City roast which is a medium roast by standard but highlights the natural characteristics of the coffe; The Vienna Roast which is between dark and light roast that gives it a touch of smoky dark roast; And the French Roast which has a smoky finish and dark chocolate richness and this is created thru roasting the beans longer and hotter than the others.

For Hot Drinks: Espresso in Americano, Capuccino, Caffe Latte, Caramel Latte Machiato, Mocha Latte; Brewed Coffee either with steamed milk or with double espresso shots; Customer Favourites are Hot Chocolate, Chocolate Steamed Nirvana, and Hot Spiced Apple Cidar; For Tea, they have Mighty Leaf Decaf, Black, Green, Herbal, and Chai Latte. What’s included in the franchise package?
