Ruffin’s Pet Centres is a franchise for a pet product retailer. It was founded in 1981 in Southern Ontario. The founder noticed the success of a discount pet food chain and decided to open one of his own.

He combined features of a pet store with a pet supply store. They started franchising in 1986 when the first franchised store was opened in Grimsby, Ontario. The business has grown and now has a 10,000 sq.ft. warehouse with the most variety of pet food in the business and hundreds of private labelled products. Example of this is the premium dog food Q Holistic which was released in July of 2010. In November of 2010, they held a fundraiser "Help Homeless Pets Fundraiser". It was started in 2009 and on its first year, they were able to raise $1,500 for homeless pets. In 2010, they sold dog house cookies for homeless pets.

You need to have a net worth of $150,000 and a total liquid asset of at least $35,000. Expect to be investing about $76,000 to $132,000. Franchise fee is $10,000 to $20,000 with an on-going royalty fee of 4%. This is for a renewable 5 year term agreement. They currently have 13 locations. They are now looking to franchise internationally. They don’t allow absentee ownership.
